Connect available for those impacted by Child Protection Reports

Connect is available to provide free telephone-based counselling to anyone impacted by the Child Protection Reports published today.

The service will open for additional hours this evening from 6-10pm to provide support and counselling to those affected. Connect’s normal opening hours are Wednesday to Sunday 6-10pm. Connect provides professional telephone based counselling and support to survivors of abuse at freephone 1800 477 477 from the Republic of Ireland and 00800 477 477 77 from Northern Ireland and the UK.

The National Board for Safeguarding Children in the Catholic Church (NBSCCC) today published findings of audits into child protection practises in eight Church institutions including: The archdioceses of Armagh and Cashel; the dioceses of Down & Connor, Achonry, Kerry and Ossory; and the Christian Brothers and St Patrick’s Missionary Society, Kiltegan, Co Wicklow.

Connect Manager Theresa Merrigan said times of public focus on clerical abuse can awaken distress and upset for people who have been affected and the Connect service is available to support these people.

Connect was established at the request of survivor groups to provide an out-of-hours service for people who have suffered abuse.
Connect is funded by the HSE.
