March 2, 2020:

Telephone-based counselling service Connect, which is free of charge, is available for viewers distressed following the broadcast of the RTE two-part documentary Redress: Breaking the Silence.

The programmes, looking and what redress has been delivered to survivors of childhood abuse in Irish institutions, are being broadcast on RTE One TV from 9.35-10.35pm on March 2 & 3.

Connect is normally closed on Monday and Tuesdays, but is opening additional hours from 9.30pm to midnight on both broadcast nights.

Connect Service Director Marie Percival said: “Programmes such as these can be very emotional for people who have been affected by childhood abuse and bring up very difficult and painful issues. Callers can speak with a trained Counsellor who can support and guide them.”

Connect provides professional telephone-based counselling to survivors of abuse at freephone:

  • 1800 477 477 from the Republic of Ireland
  • 00800 477 477 77 from Northern Ireland and the UK.
